The Millennium Walk is a scenic path connecting Gosport’s rich history and stunning waterfront views. Passing fortifications, harbours, and marinas, it’s a delightful way to explore the town’s heritage.
Facts:
- The walk was created in 2000 to celebrate the new millennium.
- It connects key landmarks, including, Millennium Bridge which leads to Priddy’s Hard and The Explosion Museum, Royal Clarence Yard & The former RN Granary & Bakery, The former RN Rum Store and remnants of Queen Victorias private railway station at Victoria Quay. Following on to the Gosport Town Waterfront once Camper & Nicholson’s Boat Yard at Endeavour Quay, along The Waterfront Esplanade past the Gosport to Portsmouth Ferry, leading to Trinity Church and adjacent Bastion No1 (1678) remnants of the Gosport Fortifications which encircled Gosport Town. The final stretch leads across Haslar Bridge towards The Submarine Museum, Gosport Gun Boat Yard and former Royal Haslar Hospital, Haslar Barracks (1802) the first purpose brick-built barracks in UK. (before soldiers were accommodated in Tents!)
